Komugyu
パン工房 こむぎゅ
Open on Saturdays and Sundays, パン工房 こむぎゅ is a small bakery in Yanaka, Taito City, serving chewy koppe-pan filled to order with peanut butter, anko and butter, or homemade seasonal jam.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
In Yanaka’s temple district in Taito City, the small bakery パン工房 こむぎゅ opens its doors only on Saturdays and Sundays. Its focus is koppe-pan, soft oblong rolls filled to order at the counter, alongside other straightforward, satisfying breads.
The signature rolls come in plain and whole-wheat dough. They’re fluffy yet densely textured, with a pleasantly chewy bite. Among the fillings added on the spot, rich peanut butter—with bits and a slightly gritty texture—and the classic pairing of anko and butter are favourites. Depending on the season, homemade jams such as La France pear, fig or apple may also be available, bringing out the flavour of the flour in the bread.
There’s more than koppe-pan: anpan filled with carefully simmered sweet bean paste and juicy sausage rolls are among the other offerings, while loaves and cheese bread appear on some days. What’s on the shelves can vary with the baking schedule. The bakery is takeaway-only, with no space for dining in, and accepts cash only. If you’re stopping by during a weekend walk, going early makes it easier to choose the combination you want.
